Assistant Packhouse Manager / Machine Operator

At Trevelyan’s, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking for a capable and detail-focused Assistant Packhouse Manager and/or Machine Operator to support the Packhouse Manager and lead our packing operations to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys operational problem-solving, people leadership, and maintaining high standards on the packhouse floor.

Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

Reporting to the Packhouse Manager, you’ll act as second-in-charge and play a key role in the smooth day-to-day operation of the packing lines. You’ll support Supervisors, drive performance, and ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance across packing activities.

Your mahi will include:

• Supporting the Packhouse Manager with daily packhouse operations
• Stepping in as required to ensure delivery of production targets
• Learning to operate and run machine/grader equipment
• Setting up pack runs and completing electronic pack logs
• Communicating accurate pack run information to all relevant departments
• Reconciling physical bins, electronic data, and packed product for each run
• Managing Class 2 packing operations and supervising staff
• Ensuring compliance with market access, quality, and product specifications
• Conducting regular audits of food safety, weights, counts, and packed product
• Monitoring and managing KPIs across safety, quality, cost, and production
• Coaching, training, and supporting Supervisors and seasonal staff
• Leading HAKA meetings and promoting strong Health & Safety practices

You’re an organised and calm leader with strong attention to detail. You’re comfortable overseeing packhouse operations, making decisions under pressure, and supporting teams to work safely and efficiently.

You’ll bring:

• Previous packhouse experience (preferred)
• Supervisory or leadership experience
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong reconciliation skills
• Clear communication and people management capability
• Sound judgement and problem-solving skills
• A proactive, hands-on leadership style
• A strong commitment to Health & Safety and quality standards
• Preferred machine/grader experience
