We’re looking for a motivated and experienced
Orchard Manager to take a hands-on leadership role managing daily orchard
operations and coordinating RSE teams. You’ll work closely with growers and
staff to ensure orchard performance aligns with management plans. As this
position involves leading and supporting Samoan-speaking RSE teams, fluency in
both English and Samoan is essential to communicate effectively, provide
training, and maintain strong team relationships.
Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role
Reporting to the Orchard Operations Manager, you’ll
take ownership of orchard performance and wellbeing, working closely with
growers, staff, and contractors to maximise productivity and fruit quality.
Your mahi will include:
- Managing
all day-to-day orchard operations in line with Orchard Management Plans
- Leading,
training, and motivating RSE teams in all orchard tasks including pruning,
thinning, and picking
- Communicating
daily work plans, safety information, and feedback clearly to Samoan-speaking
RSE workers
- Coordinating
labour requirements and workflow across orchard sites
- Monitoring
orchard health, canopy management, and crop outcomes
- Managing
budgets, reporting, and compliance requirements
- Ensuring
safe work practices and adherence to Health & Safety and sustainability
standards
- Developing
and maintaining effective relationships with growers and team members
He kōrero mōu | About you
You’ll bring:
- A
minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in orchard operations and/or kiwifruit orchard
management
- Strong
leadership and people management skills, with experience leading RSE or
multicultural teams
- Fluency
in both English and Samoan, with the ability to communicate effectively, give
instructions, and provide training in both languages
- Excellent
communication, organisation, and planning abilities
- Sound
understanding of orchard budgeting and performance targets
- A
genuine passion for horticulture and being outdoors, with an eye for detail
- An
interest in regenerative or sustainable horticultural practices
Ngā painga | What’s on offer
- Permanent,
full-time position (minimum 30 hours per week)
- Competitive
wage from $30 to $35 per hour, depending on experience
- Rosters
are generally Monday to Sunday. We typically work 8.5 hour shifts, weather
permitting. An indication of start times are between 7.00am - 8.00am
